Our principal and staff
Our school team is committed to every student’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We work together to create a supportive and inclusive school where every child is set up for success.
Welcome from our principal
Welcome to Bourke Street Public School. A vibrant and inclusive community where every child is known, valued and cared for. At BSPS, we believe education thrives when students feel a genuine sense of belonging. Our school embraces diversity and celebrates the unique qualities each learner brings.
We are privileged to have outstanding teachers whose professionalism and dedication shape the strong learning culture that defines our school. They create purposeful, engaging classrooms with uninterrupted literacy and numeracy blocks each day, supported by rich programs across the curriculum.
Our Learning Support Team works in partnership with classroom teachers to ensure students who benefit from additional support or extension are guided through thoughtful, differentiated learning.
Beyond academic learning, students enjoy a broad range of opportunities that strengthen connection and curiosity. We proudly deliver the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, and our music program is central to school life, featuring choirs, training and senior bands, a recorder ensemble, Band Camp, and our much-loved annual Dance Doncert at the Enmore Theatre showcasing the Senior Dance Ensemble.
Students also participate in programs such as Maths Games, Maths Olympiad, debating for Stage 3 and Public Speaking from Kindergarten to Year 6. Wellbeing remains at the heart of our work, with the Grow Your Mind program embedded school-wide and the You Can Sit With Me initiative encouraging kindness and inclusion.
We acknowledge important cultural and community events throughout the year, including NAIDOC Week, Book Week, Education Week, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and our iconic Hat Parade. Sport is an important part of school life too, with Got Game, carnivals for Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country for Years 3-6, and PSSA sport for Stage 3. Our youngest learners enjoy the K-2 Fun Run, and Stage 3 students experience camp, a range of excursions and incursions, and the much anticipated end of year celebrations and Bazaar.
Student leadership and voice play a vital role in shaping our school. Our Student Leaders, House Captains, SRC and Green Team, with students from every grade, help drive initiatives and contribute to decisions that impact their peers and the broader community.
Our work is strengthened by strong partnerships. We value the commitment of our P&C and our collaboration with WHOOSH, our out of school hours care provider, which ensures continuity for families. We welcome families into classrooms and to school events regularly through our whole school Open Day, classroom open days each term, and fortnightly assemblies.
Our transition programs into Kindergarten and Year 7 are thoughtfully designed to help students feel secure and excited about the next step in their learning.
Bourke Street is a special place; a school where students are encouraged to aim high, explore their interests, and grow into compassionate, confident problem solvers. We are proud of our community, our staff and, most of all, our students.
We warmly invite you to experience the energy and care that define Bourke Street Public School.
